Project 366: iPhone 3GS

Was trying to fix the back cover as it was dropped in Bahamas and none of the shops or telco willing to take in. So I had order a cover and tried to do it myself. It turns out to be a lot more complex than it looks.

I praying that all will be fine if I managed to put it all back together.

Project 366: The Must-Have for Lunar Chinese New Year

Yu-Seng is a dish that is from Singapore that is only served during CNY.

Definitely over priced for a mainly vegetable dish but it's still so yummy and auspicious.

Happy New Year.

Heart Space #62: Fiery

Just recently, I spoke about flaring up. I mentioned that it was really subjective and if you put things in some other perspective, things do not look that bad. The key message then was, why flare up that instant? I cited the example of a car accident. Imagine if you had someone bump into your car from the rear. Despite the driver being apologetic, you will still be fuming mad because of all the hassle that you will be put through. However, was it intentional; did he want it in the first place? Of course some people took to the extreme and resort to violence. Ultimately, it doesn't affect the situation that had already happened.

Sometimes, we need to take a step out and look back, was things happening the way we "saw" it? Or was it that we choose to believe that it happened? Most importantly, is it still important after an hour, a day or if the person dear to you are not here anymore... will you regret that?

Heart Space #61: Give Thanks & Pray

Thank you for allowing to persue my dreams
and making it possible by taking care of the necessary.

Thank you for giving me a wonderful home,
one that I yearn to return even when I am miles away from home

Thank you for giving me a beautiful daughter,
who constantly reminds us the values of love and laughter

Thank you for being such a good wife;
bear with me and my crazy life.

Thank you mostly for your love to me
for without it, I will not be where I'll be.

Love,
Edwin

Heart Space #60: Love Thy Faith

A few days ago, I had arguably the worst nightmare anyone especially a dad could have.

I dreamt that my wife and myself was at the balcony of our 4 storey  apartment, when Faith came out running from the house. The next thing I heard was my mum exclaiming to watch out for Faith. However, in the nick of time, Faith has already shot past beside my wife, and through the railing (or over) fell to the ground floor. I could never forget the sight I saw, or the helplessness feeling that I felt at that moment of free falling. Once it passes that very moment, there's absolutely nothing one can do. My wife could not withstand the shock and sight, and fainted before she could mutter her cries.

If you know me, you will know that my dreams are very realistic and sometimes do come true. What made me panicked was how real the dream was, given the accuracy of the surroundings, people and environment. I couldn't remove any of the dream sequence from me, and I was so worried even paranoia that I may lose Faith...  I briefed my wife what has happened, and cautioned her to be extra wary and take good care of Faith.  I started making extra effort to spend more time with Faith, and constantly make her understand that we love her a lot, and reminded her to be careful always especially climbing. (of course, I forbid her going near the edge of the balcony afterwards).

Given how I managed to scrutinize the dream, I am more relieved that it is just a very bad nightmare. This episode however, made me more aware that our time is short, and accidents may and can happen anytime. It made me felt very vulnerable and at the same time more human. I could not express enough, but love your loved ones, and there's nothing more important than being with those that you love.

Heart Space #59: Difference back home

Being back for almost 2 weeks, my family and I are still trying hard to adapt to the life back in Singapore. We are missing a lot of things or the way things were in Bahamas. No doubt we are getting some of the perks while back home, but upon comparison, life was probably "better" in Bahamas.

1. Time with the family.
While I do spend more time with my parents, and my wife with hers, it is very apparent that we are spending less with Faith. She goes to my parent's place for the entire day, and by the time we go to pick her up, it's usually about 730pm or 800pm. And because my work day starts so much earlier here, and ending later... I am usually tired out and offer little energy left to play with her.

2. Time at work.
As mentioned, in Singapore, as I catch the public transport to work, I have to wake up at 7am, and be at work by 9am. Yes, that's an hour on the roads. Going home, even with the wifey picking up me, the expressways ain't any faster too with the end of day traffic jams. In Bahamas, I can wake up at 830am, get in office by 9 and leave work at 5pm, reach home at 5:30pm. By 7pm, we all would have our dinner which is HOME COOKED, and plenty of time for play with Faith. This is something I greatly miss.

3. Things to do.
Well, this was mentioned on my wife's blog. As we no longer cook, we no longer do groceries shopping during the weekend. Instead, it's filled with malls excursions as there are many that have opened up since we left Singapore. We didn't want to do any of the touristy stuff even though I have suggested. Things like hotel stay at the Marina Bay Sands, Sentosa Underworld world all met with strong protests and rejection.. I wonder how long will this mall excursion lasts... before we will then be truly bored again, and wondered where did all the weekends disappear to?

4. Money.
It was mentioned that while I was in Bahamas, wife and myself are slightly richer. It is because my wife gets her allowance from me, through my per diems, and we do not spend a lot with the exception of groceries and trips. Back home, I do not have per diems thus not giving the wife allowances as well. Per diems was a substantial amount, and it's always nice to have more, than less money.

5. Faith's time
Faith is still pretty much bumping around while the wife sorts out the school places. Till then, she has only her grandparents and us to play with. Maybe it's really time I bring her out to do something, something touristy. :(
