Heart Space #59: Difference back home
Being back for almost 2 weeks, my family and I are still trying hard to adapt to the life back in Singapore. We are missing a lot of things or the way things were in Bahamas. No doubt we are getting some of the perks while back home, but upon comparison, life was probably "better" in Bahamas.
1. Time with the family.
While I do spend more time with my parents, and my wife with hers, it is very apparent that we are spending less with Faith. She goes to my parent's place for the entire day, and by the time we go to pick her up, it's usually about 730pm or 800pm. And because my work day starts so much earlier here, and ending later... I am usually tired out and offer little energy left to play with her.
2. Time at work.
As mentioned, in Singapore, as I catch the public transport to work, I have to wake up at 7am, and be at work by 9am. Yes, that's an hour on the roads. Going home, even with the wifey picking up me, the expressways ain't any faster too with the end of day traffic jams. In Bahamas, I can wake up at 830am, get in office by 9 and leave work at 5pm, reach home at 5:30pm. By 7pm, we all would have our dinner which is HOME COOKED, and plenty of time for play with Faith. This is something I greatly miss.
3. Things to do.
Well, this was mentioned on my wife's blog. As we no longer cook, we no longer do groceries shopping during the weekend. Instead, it's filled with malls excursions as there are many that have opened up since we left Singapore. We didn't want to do any of the touristy stuff even though I have suggested. Things like hotel stay at the Marina Bay Sands, Sentosa Underworld world all met with strong protests and rejection.. I wonder how long will this mall excursion lasts... before we will then be truly bored again, and wondered where did all the weekends disappear to?
4. Money.
It was mentioned that while I was in Bahamas, wife and myself are slightly richer. It is because my wife gets her allowance from me, through my per diems, and we do not spend a lot with the exception of groceries and trips. Back home, I do not have per diems thus not giving the wife allowances as well. Per diems was a substantial amount, and it's always nice to have more, than less money.
5. Faith's time
Faith is still pretty much bumping around while the wife sorts out the school places. Till then, she has only her grandparents and us to play with. Maybe it's really time I bring her out to do something, something touristy. :(
